In 1989, Simon Cressey purchased Birkdale Timbers Ltd. At that stage the Company had a total staff of 6, 4 of whom still work for the Company including the General Manager Neville Carpenter. The next step in 1991 was to establish a new branch in Albany, managed by Ross Healy. With the Company focus firmly on the residential market, a pre-cut, pre-nailing plant was established in 1992 and 2 years later the installation of the truss plant followed. We now had all the ingredients to service our customers with their requirements. Rapid expansion followed as our customers reaped the benefits of our commitments.

The Company also established export markets within the Pacific Rim, but this has increased to include Japan, Canada and even as far away as England.

With the rapid expansion also came the age-old problem of storage space, so a decision was made to expand the business further whilst also acquiring more storage space, rather than just acquire storage space. In 1998 a suitable business was found which suited our requirements because of their similar focus on the residential market and their location within the Greater Auckland Region. After many attempts (and years) to purchase these two further yards, it all finally came to fruition in November 2001 with the acquisition of an East Tamaki branch, managed by Mark Irwin and Warkworth branch managed by John Merrick.

A decision was made at this time to also change the name of all 4 yards to TimberWorld Ltd.

In October 2005, we further expanded, purchasing a timber yard on Waiheke Island, also renaming it to Timberworld.

The latest development has been the introduction of a computerized paperless cutting system to the existing truss plant, which should see our production increase substantially to match the ever-increasing sales demands.

Today we employ 65 staff and operate in Albany & Birkdale on Auckland’s North Shore, East Tamaki in South Auckland, Warkworth, North Auckland and Waiheke Island.
